MOHALI: The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium at Mohali, one of the best cricketing arenas in the world, is getting ready for the forthcoming India-New Zealand Test match that will be played here from October 16 to October 20.
The PCA is going in for some alterations and additions in the stadium which already boasts of world class facilities. Among these is a giant video screen that will be installed next to the electronic score board.
President of PCA, IS Bindra said that the video screen will be an added attraction at the stadium as the spectators can get to see the action on the field and be a part of close decisions like runouts which are referred to the third umpire. "It adds to the excitement of watching the game," he added.
The PCA is also going in for an extension of the south pavilion so that it can accommodate more people. Bindra said that this will also bring in more revenue to the PCA in addition to more people being able to enjoy the game. The PCA is expecting the Board of Cricket Control of India to provide Rs 2 crore as a part of the infrastructure subsidy.
Another addition to the facilities for the players at the stadium will be the state-of-the-art gymnasium. Bindra said that the PCA has plans for a major infrastructure expansion that includes a banquet hall that can double up as a dormitory for the players who are selected from the various districts of Punjab.
The PCA will complete the first three works before the Test match begins.
